U.S. Cuts Work-Permit Duration for Noncitizens Amid Security Concerns

USCIS is reducing work-permit validity for noncitizens from 5 years to 18 months. Officials say the shorter timeframe will allow more frequent background checks, help detect fraud, identify security threats, and remove individuals considered high-risk.
